Marakolliya Beach

The definition of perfection, according to Google, is the condition, state, or quality of being free, or as free as possible, from all flaws or defects. And every once in a while, our path leads us to a place that gives this word meaning – that makes our hearts full.

I have been fortunate enough to lay my eyes on some of the loveliest settings our world has to offer. Landscapes that sweep you off your feet and steal the air from your lungs – that make you wish for a thousand lifetimes, for even that wouldn’t be enough to take it all in. For me, Marakolliya Beach on the edge of Tangalle, was every bit of that, and more.

The ocean, a mix of cobalt and turquoise, was met with deep golden sand, and a long stretch of palms. For hours on end, we moved with the current, letting it carry us out, then push us back in, often crashing ashore. When we grew tired, we’d sway in the hammocks, then grab a cocktail, or go for a walk. After the sun would set, we’d dine on fresh lobster and curries, then fall asleep in our thatched roof hut to the sounds of the waves rolling in… then get up and do it all over again. It was, in every sense of the word, perfect.

Thank you, Rich.
