There is a hole in my chest. It’s deep, it’s dark, it aches. It beats like a drum, drowning out whatever is near. Reaching in, it never stops, never ends. There is no bottom. It goes, and it goes, and it goes. Limitless. It started small – tiny in fact – no more than a fleck of dust. Over time it started to sting, to spread. I cleaned, covered, prayed. When time didn’t wave its magic wand, I forged for scraps. I stitched, sewed and mended. I became whole. But faulty ties gave way, you see. With a single beat and breath it burst – my insides, now out. My reality now shown. My fate now sealed.

There is a hole in my chest. And soon, my chest will become my arms and my hands – my legs and my feet.
